JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas — Developmental Special Experiences provide Air and Space Professionals more than just education and training opportunities, they help the service build the Airmen needed for the future high-end fight.

The DSEs, cataloged by Air Education and Training Command’s Force Development Credentialing Division’s DSE branch, are hands-on experiences outside of formal training, established recurring opportunities, a means to gain/increase competencies, and duties typically external to primary AFSCs or job series. The following DSEs are highlighted this quarter:

During this 18–24-month experience, this position shepherds and connects the organization to the innovation ecosystem and empowers innovation through their understanding of the innovation process, funding mechanisms, and unique programs available within the DoD, Industry partners, and academia.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a professional pathway for those experienced in navigating and growing the innovation ecosystem. This position enables installation and mission support to integrate and accelerate the changes necessary which allow the exploration of new operational concepts and rapidly brings these innovative capabilities to life.

This is an 18–24-month Developmental Special Experience for active-duty personnel who works directly with the Strategy lead.

The Transformation Lead is a connector who focuses on building networks, managing personalities, and education partnerships [Instruct Innovator Courses, Facilitate Learning/Collaboration, build community (the Innovation Ecosystem), manage conflict, talent scout, host/organize meetings/Visits, discover squadron/community requirements/needs, and pursue Commitments.

During this 18-week fellowship you may support a range of projects: MAJCOM outreach; work efforts to incubate, accelerate and transition Airmen/Guardian ideas; design innovation training; or participate in a SBIR/STTR sprint. Your fellowship has the possibility of extending your time at AFWERX.

Traditional Fellows will be assigned to AFWERX Ventures, Spark, Prime, or SpaceWERX divisions for projects. Fellows will have an opportunity to pursue additional assignments at several points throughout the cohort. The purpose of this fellowship is to explore and absorb as much information and experience as possible.
