About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Aircraft Mechanic Leader, WL-8852-12 to work at the 412 Test Wing, 412 Maintenance Group, 412 Aircraft Maintenance Squadron/F-35 AMU (412 AMXS/MXAD) at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

The primary purpose of this position is: To provide a working and training leader for assigned aircraft and Ordnance system mechanics providing on-equipment maintenance for General Test/Test aircraft and Weapons systems. Assist in the development, conduct and administration of “on the job", proficiency and other training programs within the AMU.

To prepare aircraft and weapon systems for, and perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance, and modification. These aircraft and weapon systems are typically: (a) modified Type II systems for development or test and evaluation; (b) special instrumented to accomplish test missions; (c) assigned in support of research and development tests in which they approach design limitations; (d) in some instances are first article or early series/production prototype aircraft with an original life expectancy to cover tests only, but which have been continued in use as test support vehicles. Additionally, incumbent is responsible to troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, test and service, pneudraulics systems, sub-systems, components, and accessories of aircraft and weapons systems and engines.

Location: Edwards, California (Edwards Air Force Base)
Typical 2024 salary range: $48.93 – $57.09/per hour (includes locality)
Telework Information: Position not eligible for telework
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

Desired Skills:

– 2 years of flight test experience desired
– 6 years aircraft mechanic experience desired
– Gen 5 Aircraft experience desired

Major Duties:
– Lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work.
– Assist in the development, conduct and administration of “on the job training"
– Ensures instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been meet.
– Reports on status and progress of work and reasons for delays.
– Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.
– Performs or leads others in the performance of ground handling and servicing of assigned aircraft
– Performs or leads others in maintaining aircraft and maintenance records.

Qualifications/Requirements:
– U.S. Citizenship
– Obtain & maintain Security clearance
– This is a designated Drug Testing Position
– Must be able to qualify/maintain a flight line drivers licenses, operate government vehicles, AGE, and to pass physical examinations.
– Subject to rotating shifts, TDYs, overtime, and uncommon tour of duty.
– Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
– Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s)
– Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
– Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led.
