About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Pipefitter (WG-4204-10) to work at the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) in the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), at the 412 TW/OL-Plant 42/CEO at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, CA.

In this position you will install, modify, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial and domestic high-temperature water and high-pressure piping systems, equipment, water distribution systems, and plumbing such as are present in natural gas, sanitary sewer lines, meter discharge stations, swimming pools, and remote utility systems. Perform the full range of journey level plumbing duties such as installing, repairing, and modifying water supply, sewage disposal, gas distribution, oil lines, and similar utility systems and equipment at the 412 TW/OL-Plant 42/CEO at Air Force Plant 42 42 in Palmdale, CA.

Location: Palmdale, CA (Edwards, Air Force Base)
Typical 2024 salary range: $32.87 – $38.29 per hour (includes locality)
Telework Information: Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

Desired Skills:
– 2 years of experience installing, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial and domestic high-temperature water and high-pressure piping system, equipment, water distribution systems, and plumbing desired.
– 2 years of experience interpreting information in blueprints, charts, and sketches desired.
– 2 years of experience inspecting piping systems, identifying irregularities and potential problems desired.

Major Duties:
– Plan and layout the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment.
– Modify, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial and domestic high-temperature water and high-pressure piping systems, equipment, water distribution systems, and plumbing.

Qualifications/Requirements:
– U.S. Citizenship
– Obtain & maintain Security clearance
– This is a designated Drug Testing Position
– Knowledge of high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as, steam heating, steam generation, and hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum, and circulating pumps, and radiators.
– Knowledge of tactical technical practices to determine the need for modification and repairs.
– Skills and troubleshooting/inspecting piping systems to identify irregularities and existing and/or potential problems and system malfunctions.
– Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
