About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time IT Specialist (APPSW)(NH-2210-02T03) to work at the 412 Test Wing, 412th Test Engineering Group, 412th Range Squadron, Time Space Position Information (TSPI) Flight (412 RANS/ENRTP) at Edwards AFB in Edwards, CA.

 

This position will serve as the primary point of contact to the customer for all Range Squadron mission control room and test program data support. This position accomplishes real-time and post-night data processing support at Ridley Mission Control Center, Birk Flight Test Facility, and flight test squadron locations. The primary job of the Range Support Specialist is to provide pre- and post-flight as well as real-time support to test operations personnel using Range Squadron mission control room and data production resources.

Typical 2025 salary range: $47,019 – $112,053 Per Year (includes locality)

Desired Skills:

 

• Experience with or strong understanding of SolidWorks or other computer aided design     software desired

• Experience with or understanding of data analysis desired

• Ability to apply math and physics knowledge in the analysis of TSPI trajectories

 

Major Duties:

• Assists in operating, maintaining, and managing multiple real-time data acquisition, display, and processing ground stations to convert telemetered and recorded aircraft data to intermediate data for display and conversion, and to engineering unit data used in second generation processing and analysis systems. Assures timely and effective flow of data through the real-time systems and performs calibration and performance checkout of the acquisition and processing, communication, time-space positioning and other systems used during real-time and post-flight test support operations.

• Programs various computer systems to acquire, reduce, display, and record telemetered flight data for pre-mission and system checkout according to mission requirements. Performs calibration and checkout of the processing equipment in accordance with established procedures and techniques. Monitors the operation of the systems during real-time mission support operations to ensure that the systems function properly.

• Proactively manages system evaluations and malfunctions which cause computer systems to cease functioning properly. Recommends and installs corrections to prevent recurrence. Maintains MCR hardware and software configuration control.

• Performs technical and engineering work using classified information in various media and formats.  Ensures implementation of appropriate technical, safety, and security policies.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship

• Obtain & maintain Security clearance

• Current Security+ or ability to obtain one within one year.

• Knowledge of state-of-the art real-time and post-flight telemetry systems and related hardware and software and its application to the support of flight test and evaluation.

• Knowledge of computer system operation and programming using high level command and scripting languages as well as programming languages (e.g. Java, C, and C++) and operating systems (e.g. MS Windows, Linux, VMS).

• Knowledge of airborne instrumentation equipment, its application and signal conditioning requirements and its usage. In-depth understanding of pulse code modulation and frequency modulation signal processing theory and application.

• Ability to identify operational needs, shortfalls, and opportunities, and to develop innovative solutions.
