About the Role:

The Air Force Civilian Service is looking for a Full-Time Public Affairs Specialist (NH-1035-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, Public Affairs Office (412 TW/PA), at Edwards AFB in Edwards, CA.   

In this position, you will expand awareness of, and support for, the 412th Test Wing, Edwards AFB, and Air Force Plant 42 though community relations, environmental public affairs, internal information, media relations, digital engagement, and security and policy review programs. 

Announcement Length/Closes: 13 days

Location: Edwards AFB, CA

Typical 2025 salary range: $104,349 – $161,313 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: Up to 10 days

Desired Skills:

– Exceptional verbal communication and public speaking storytelling — with a talent for crafting narratives — founded in currant and historical wing and higher-headquarters activity and associated messaged.

– Proficiency in strategic planning and relationship building for cultivating trust and managing community partnerships.

– Proficiency in journalistic writing and photography.

– Digital competency in using social media to reach audiences.

– Exceptional complex community engagement program management, prioritization, multitasking and time management.

Major Duties:

– Serve as wing commander's community advisor: serve as a primary community contact and secondary community spokesperson for the installation commander and Public Affairs director.

– Represent the base at various community events and community meetings.

– Provide appropriate response to community requests and complaints; answer queries, research and coordinate responses to ensure currency and accuracy of answers.

– Arrange base support to the community, including speakers, honor guard, flyovers and static displays; prepare base employees prior to such support; monitor support when necessary; provide followup materials; and monitor finished product.

– Arrange community visits to the installation, prepare itineraries, coordinate visits with proper base agencies and provide escort, including flightline escort.

– Initiate and maintain frequent contact with local community leaders and groups to keep them informed about the programs and activities of the 412th Test Wing.

– Plan and develop communication programs designed to highlight the wing's contribution to the Air Force mission and overall defense of the United States.

– Write news releases, articles for the base newspaper, fact sheets and other print products regarding base programs, activities and people using Associated Press style; take photos and write cutlines in AP style to support office print products.

– Perform other Public Affairs duties, including required additional duties, and act on behalf of the Public Affairs director when required.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

– U.S. Citizenship

– Obtain & maintain security clearance

– Substantive knowledge of Public Affairs core competencies, policies, regulations, practices and theories.

– Ability to communicate proficiently, both verbally and in writing.

– Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups.

– Substantive knowledge and general understanding of Air Force, Air Force Materiel Command, and Air Force Test Center programs and policies.
