About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory Instrumentation Operations Engineer (NH-0855-03) to work at the 412th Test Engineering Group, 812th Aircraft Instrumentation Test Squadron (ENIA or ENIB) at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

The primary purpose of this position is to perform as the supervisor of a team of matrixed instrumentation engineers and senior technicians who design, validate and support instrumentation systems used for data acquisition and telemetry in aerospace weapon system test and evaluation programs. Additionally, the incumbent has primary technical review responsibility over temporary (T-2) modifications and provides expert guidance in the design, installation, validation, and support of airborne instrumentation systems for aerospace weapons systems.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)
Typical 2024 salary range: $101,121 – $156,323 per year (includes locality)
Telework Information: Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"

Desired Skills:
– 5 years of Instrumentation Operations experience desired
– 2 years of Instrumentation Modification experience including T-2 Mod Processes and Airworthiness desired
– Strong verbal and written communication skills required
– Demonstrated leadership ability through experience, mentoring and continuous self-improvement desired

Major Duties:
– Leads and conducts instrumentation operations by coordinating activities of functional and support organizations to accomplish the design, development and sustainment of instrumentation systems in support of flight test operations
– Performs as a senior instrumentation specialist and interfaces directly with other Air Force Agencies, contractors, project managers and engineers at technical planning meetings and conferences.
– Advises test and evaluation program engineers and data analysts of current instrumentation technical and operational capabilities and limitations
– Develops cost and resource estimates to support applicable flight test programs and operations
– Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work
– Recruits, develops, motivates, and retains quality team members and takes timely/appropriate personnel actions, communicates mission and organizational goals

Qualifications/Requirements:
– U.S. Citizenship
– Obtain & maintain a Top Security clearance
– Position requires a professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution. Advanced degrees are preferred.
– DAWIA Certification – Test & Evaluation – Practitioner
– Extensive professional knowledge of advanced electronics, mechanical and aerospace engineering concepts, principles and techniques, as they relate to instrumentation systems.
– Knowledge of all aspects of flight test data acquisition, processing and analysis, including knowledge of methods and equipment (types of transducers, signal conditioning) used to measure physical phenomena and digital data buses on aircraft.
– Knowledge of aircraft construction, flight instruments, aircraft electrical and aeronautical systems, along with knowledge of flight test operations, products, services, needs and goals as they pertain to aircraft instrumentation operations support.
– Knowledge of design, integration, validation, and operational support and sustainment of airborne instrumentation systems.
– Knowledge of planning, coordinating, cost estimating, preparing equipment specifications and tracking of schedule for airborne data systems.
