About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Computer Security Specialist- System Administrator (NH-2210-03) to work at the 48 Cyberspace Test Squadron Detachment 1, at Edwards Air Force Base.

The 48 Cyberspace Test Squadron (48 CTS) is the principal AF organization for developmental testing of cyberspace weapon systems. Evaluates cybersecurity and cyber resiliency of the Air Force's kinetic and non-kinetic weapon systems. Provides realistic test and training environments for the evaluation of offensive and defensive cyber capabilities. Detachment 1 executes cyber developmental test and evaluation of 412th Test Wing aircraft and embedded systems.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)
Typical 2025 salary range: $103,316 – $159,716 per year (includes locality)
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible
Incentives: This position MAY be eligible for paid relocation (Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs MAY be paid). Specifics will be discussed with the Selecting Official.

Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

Desired Skills:
– At least 5 years of experience as IT System Administrator or Computer Security Specialist is highly desired.
– Knowledge of Windows Server and various flavors of Unix/Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu). Understanding of networking concepts, protocols and services including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, routers, and switches.
– Knowledge of scripting languages i.e., PowerShell, Bash, or Python. Additionally, familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hype-V or KVM.

Major Duties:
– Plans, organizes, and or directs cyber, IT or information/knowledge management (IM) activities which comply with legal, regulatory, and AF/DoD-directed requirements and meet mission and customer needs.
– Coordinates with program and project managers of other organizations and agencies in developing, operating, and modifying policies to ensure local application meets mission/project requirements. Leads multi-disciplined teams to ensure mission completion.
– Serves as senior technical advisor on cyber, IT, or IM activities. Stays abreast of changes in policy direction, keeping leadership informed of impacts on organizational requirements. Considers the organization's resources while developing plans to meet changing cyber, IT, or IM needs of the organization.

Qualifications/Requirements:
– U.S. Citizenship
– Must be able to obtain/maintain Special Access Program and Sensitive Compartmented Information access eligibility.
– This is a designated Drug Testing Position
– CompTIA Security+ certification is required
– Expert knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of IT assessment, planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation as well as knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, managing IT projects and resources, monitoring, and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
– Knowledge of IT system analysis, operating system concepts, functions, techniques and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new/ emerging IT security methods, feasibility of proposed new systems; design, test and maintain IT systems ensuring successful integration. Ability to lead and manage information systems planning, development, implementation, operation, and maintenance.
– Extensive knowledge of virtual environment, SAN and LUN provisioning, configuration and management. Knowledge of principles, methods and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to build systems and optimize system performance
