The 75th Mission Support Group hosted the Royal Australian Air Force in a combined 649th Munitions Squadron and 75th Logistics Readiness Squadron mission in this past week. The squadrons assisted the RAAF Mobile Air Load Team in palletizing and preparing Australian munitions for transport.

The RAAF received support in the inspection, transfer, and upload process of dual thrust rocket motors. In a mutual effort, the squadrons aided the allied nation to execute a swift return of assets to the Australian theater.

Expert munitions and port specialists were on hand to provide the MALT with technical supervision and guidance on how best to execute an airlift from Hill Air Force Base. Teams spent two days building munitions pallets and conducting joint inspections alongside the RAAF.

“Working a joint operation with Warrant Officer Selby and his RAAF team to transport was an honor. This operation provided a rare opportunity for our members to learn about RAAF munitions movement procedures,” said Tech. Sgt Timothy Bench, 649th MUNS conventional maintenance section chief.

Configuring the load to an Australian C-17 aircraft, six air transportation members from the 75th LRS provided cargo loader operations and team support to the MALT. They worked with the RAAF Loadmasters to successfully deliver all assets for a timely departure.

“I was impressed by the way the Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force meshed, seamlessly executing combined operations to satisfy the security of our nations," said Senior Airman Mark Hamilton, air transportation specialist.

To meet stringent U.S. Department of Transportation standards, munitions and logistics worked together to teach the RAAF proper load distribution and how to safely secure DTRMs for transport, in turn the RAAF shared their expertise on RAAF net procedures.

“The collaboration strengthened the skills of three organizations, fostering a shared commitment to operational readiness,” Bench said.
