About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Telecommunications Specialist (NH-0391-02) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Mission Support Group, 412th Communications Squadron (412 CS/SCOT) at Edwards Air Force Base.

In this position you will maintain an interference free radio frequency (RF) spectrum within the Air Force Test Center (AFTC).

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)
Typical 2025 salary range: $47,019 – $112,053 per year (includes locality)
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible
Incentives: This position MAY be eligible for a recruitment/relocation incentive. Specifics will be discussed with the Selecting Official.

Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

Desired Skills:
– 2 years of test Spectrum XXI experience desired
– 2 years of radio frequency fundamental experience desired
– 2 years of base level spectrum management experience desired

Major Duties:
– Operates the Frequency Control and Analysis (FCA) facility to establish procedures, determine the appropriate measurement systems to utilize, analyze results, and recommend action be taken or initiates action to resolve problems encountered in the daily measurement of RF spectrum usage by DoD activities, NASA and contractors within the area of the AFTC, Plant 42 Palmdale, and the confines of the R-2508 National Test Range.
– Serves as a technical specialist for radio frequency measurement and analysis to support electromagnetic compatibility control
– Resolves conflicts between users and utilizes a variety of state-of-the-act manual and microprocessor controlled equipment in both fixed and mobile mode to perform signal and direction finding measurements often on signals of limited duration and occurrence.
– Directly monitors and evaluates the radio frequency (RF) for the AFTC. Provides range support and technical expertise by which using organizations can review their contract specifications and selection of new radiating devices and systems prior to award of contracts.
– Analyzes spectrum utilization and collaborates with the supervisor in developing better policies for the conservation and protection of the RF natural resource.
– Employs various special purpose receivers, recorders, RF Direction Finders and associated antenna systems to analyze and determine the location of unknown RF radiations.
– Maintains a real-time log and/or recordings of all signals detected.
– Reviews the Weekly Aircraft Utilization and Requirements Schedule for radio frequency usage. Monitors
– Maintains and repairs Frequency Control and Analysis (FCA) electronic equipment as required.
– Trains subordinate Frequency Control and Analysis (FCA) operator.

Qualifications/Requirements:
– U.S. Citizenship
– This position requires at least a SECRET level security clearance and may require the ability to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET security clearance with special access.
– Must perform stand-by duties on a shared basis and be available for immediate response when called
– In-depth knowledge of wireless telecommunications operating systems, standards and quality and in-depth knowledge of USAF maintenance and modification, including modification procedures, record documentation and record keeping
– Skill in training qualified technicians in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, installing and functionally testing specialized standards and nonstandard or modified systems, transceiver systems, antennas, components and accessories
– In-depth knowledge of instructions, specifications, technical drawings, blueprints and technical manuals used in the maintenance and modification of wireless telecommunications equipment and train qualified technicians in these functions.
– Ability to train in the skilled use and maintenance of measuring instruments, various mechanics hand tools and special tools.
