About SBIR:
Established by Congress in 1982, the SBIR program funds small businesses of 500 or fewer employees to conduct research and development (R&D) across eleven federal agencies, including the Department of Defense.
About STTR:
The STTR program, created in 1992, funds cooperative R&D projects between small businesses and U.S. non-profit research institutions, such as universities. Five federal agencies, including the Department of Defense, participate, with both programs focused on innovations with commercial and military application potential.
